Duke Energy Cutting Prices In 2025
At Charlotte Comfort Systems, we’re always here to help you stay comfortable and save money, and we have some great news to share with you today. Duke Energy has announced a reduction in electric rates for North Carolina customers, effective January 1st.
This rate decrease is part of an annual adjustment related to the cost of fuel used to generate electricity at Duke Energy’s power plants. For a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month, this means a reduction of $5.17 in their monthly bill, bringing it down from $142.17 to $137. Not only does this offer significant savings, but it also puts Duke Energy’s rates approximately 23% below the national average of $177.09, saving you about $480 per year!
This is welcome news for our commercial and industrial clients, too. Commercial customers can expect an average decrease of about 7.4% in their bills, while industrial customers will see an average decrease of less than 1%. These reductions are set to benefit a wide range of customers, offering some relief in today’s challenging economic environment.
However, it’s important to note that this decrease will be temporary for some customers. In September, residential rates are expected to rise by about $2.14 per month for 1,000-kilowatt-hour users due to a settlement agreement with the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
For those serviced by Progress Energy, rate changes are still under review by regulators. If a decrease is approved, customers should see these changes beginning December 1st.
We know how important it is to keep your energy costs manageable, especially during the colder months. That’s why Charlotte Comfort Systems is committed to helping you stay comfortable and informed about any changes that could affect your energy bills.
