Duke Energy Savings Update
At Charlotte Comfort Systems, we want our customers to have the latest, most accurate information about energy-efficiency rebates. In 2025, Duke Energy has expanded its incentives, especially for homeowners upgrading their HVAC systems, and the opportunities for savings are better than ever.
Bigger Rebates in the Smart $aver® Program
The Smart $aver® Home Improvement Rebate Program has been updated with higher rebate amounts this year. Customers who replace older, inefficient heat pumps may now qualify for rebates of up to $500, depending on the system model and its efficiency rating. These incentives can significantly reduce the upfront cost of new HVAC equipment and make it easier to transition to higher-efficiency options that lower monthly energy bills.
Major Savings for Income-Qualified Customers
For households that meet income qualifications, the savings are even more substantial. Duke Energy has raised the HVAC replacement incentive from $6,000 to $8,000, making it possible for many families to replace aging systems at little or no out-of-pocket expense. In addition, income-qualified customers may also receive free or heavily discounted energy assessments, smart thermostats, and weatherization improvements. Together, these upgrades improve comfort, reduce energy waste, and cut long-term costs.
Solar + Battery Incentives with PowerPair
While not directly an HVAC program, Duke Energy’s PowerPair initiative complements electrification efforts by supporting homeowners who install both rooftop solar and battery storage. Rebates can total as much as $9,000, with $3,600 available for solar systems and $5,400 for eligible battery storage. For families considering an electric heat pump or other high-efficiency HVAC equipment, combining these upgrades with renewable energy may make sense. It is important to note, however, that PowerPair is a separate program with its own eligibility rules and application process.
How to Qualify for Savings
To make the most of these opportunities, customers need to confirm their eligibility. Factors such as income level, home type (single-family, multifamily, or manufactured housing), and whether you are served by Duke Energy Carolinas or Duke Energy Progress all influence rebate amounts. Equipment must also meet Duke Energy’s efficiency standards, such as SEER ratings for air conditioners and heat pumps. Finally, customers should apply as early as possible since many programs, especially PowerPair and income-qualified rebates, operate on a first-come, first-served basis with limited funds.
HVAC Savings Recap
For North Carolina homeowners, 2025 is a great year to upgrade HVAC systems through Duke Energy’s rebate programs. Standard customers can earn rebates in the $300–$500 range for new, efficient systems, while income-qualified households can save as much as $8,000 on replacements. By choosing approved contractors and applying early, you can maximize your benefits and enjoy a more efficient, comfortable home.
